SSC P7 LED light conversion projects and information

This page is the main Library of information page for all my Bike Light mods and projects.
There are many links below that lead to many information pages
If you get lost in the library, just return to this page.
All pages have links that point back to this page.

Note: All the Marwi lights I build and all the Marwi mods below run on 3.6 volt lithium Ion battery packs.
You cannot run my designs on anything but 3.6 volt battery packs.
I do not make or have any driver designs for higher voltage battery packs

This is a picture of part of the huge stash of Marwi halogen lights I discovered

These lights were found piled all together in big boxes at the main Us Marwi warehouse.
I purchased the complete New old stock inventory from Marwi.
There is some minor cosmetic damage on some of the bodies from being shipped all together in big boxes.
Cosmetic damage would be slight scratches, but nothing serious.
Just giving everyone a heads up in case you receive a light and wonder why there is a small bit of cosmetic damage.

These lights are new old stock and are not being made any more
I tear these lights apart and re-use the bodies to make SSC P7 LED lights.
I sell several of the parts that I remove from these lights on my web store.
Some of the parts for sale are:
MR11 - 6 volt halogen bulbs
MR11 ceramic receptacle and Judco switch
Old style Marwi handlebar mounts
External handle bar switch housing with Judco SPST switch

This is a picture of Marwi Halogen lights that have been converted to SSC P7 LED lights.

I have converted many Marwi View Point halogen lights to use a SSC P7 LED.
These lights were sold by Performance and on the Marwi web site as 6 volt Halogen bicycle lights.
I purchased several hundred of these New Old stock lights and I am recycling them for LED usage.

It a really cool little light body that works very well when converted to a SSC P7 LED bike light.
In order to be able to run a SSC P7 LED in these bodies, I had a special heat sink made at a machine shop that fits only these bodies
This heat sink fits snugly in the Marwi light bodies and transfers the LED heat to the outer skin very nicely.
I also machine several parts on my CNC machine specifically for this light body and the SSC P7 LED
These lights have progressed through several mods that are listed on the page below.

A bit about the SSC P7 LED
The SSC P7 is a very high current low voltage LED that is made by Seoul Semiconductors.
It runs at 3.6 volts and maximum current rating is 2.8 amps, even though I have seen them run higher current than that.
Seoul Semi rates the output at 900 lumens (Laboratory figures)
It's probably impossible to actually get 900 lumens from this light in the real world, but this LED is really, really bright.
At this time, it is the brightest single LED I know of.
This LED is much brighter than Halogen and HID  bike lights I have owned.
I sold all my old lights after using a SSC P7 LED light.
I run two of the Marwi SSC P7 LED lights on my handlebars, one on my helmet and it is awesome.

Stay tuned to this page for the latest info on these Marwi conversions.

Latest info regarding the Marwi light driver board configurations

Note that the internal driver configurations I use continue to evolve.
I am always experimenting with different internal parts on these lights.
You can find info on the different driver board configurations I have experimented with, further down this page.

I am not currently using any of the driver board mods that use the clicky switches.
There has been issues with the Chinese suppliers sending different switches that are of poor quality.
I cannot count on receiving the same exact parts every time I order.

The very first clicky switches I received were good quality and I still have lights that run fine with these switches.
Recently, some of the Chinese clicky switches had some plastic parts inside them that would get soft at too low a temperature.
When the plastic parts get soft, the switch plunger will go in, but it will not come back out again.
This causes the switch to stop working

This sort of thing is not acceptable to me because I cannot build lights with unreliable parts.
Because of this situation, I am now using USA made Judco switches and two 1400 ma current limiter boards.
The Judco switches are made in the USA and are much better quality than Chinese switches.

The current Marwi P7 lights I am building have a USA made Judco push button switch and two 1400ma current regulator boards.
The lights now have two modes
Low mode = 1.4 amps
High mode = 2.8 amps.

In this mod, I am using two 1.4 amp current limiter boards.
The modded clicky switch has one terminal added.
One click of the switch turns on one 1.4 amp board for a 1.4 amp half power setting.
Click the switch again and both 1.4 amp boards come on for 2.8 amps full power.

This page shows the most recent Hi-Lo current limiter board parts and how it is assembled using the modified clicky switch.

Assembling the new style 4 x 18650 Battery Holders

Note that the battery holder style below proved to be too much labor for most folks to assemble.
Another problem was that people were cranking down the big nut way too much
This would rip the threaded end right out of the battery holder.
I have discontinued making the battery holder below.

Improving the clicky switch performance
Click on the images for a larger image

The clicky switches I used in some of my mods can be greatly improved by adding more terminals to the switches.
More terminals = more contact surface area, more current carrying capability and greater reliability.

Original Switch replacement on Marwi lights - Judco SPST switch with Rubber boot
The old Marwi lights had a halogen bulb with a ceramic bulb base and wire assembly.
The wires were crimped to the switch contacts and it was difficult to remove all the halogen stuff without messing up the switch contacts.
This switch has 4.5" leads and made it much easier to replace in my SSC P7 Marwi conversions.
I stock the Judco switches and boots on my web store if you need to replace this switch.
