The 18 Watt stout project was
such a great success that I decided to go ahead and design
a Stout with reverb. The amp sounds great and has
reverb, how can you beat it? The reverb circuit is based on
a Fender combo reverb circuit but the Stout does not have
the deep Fender reverb that a Fender combo has. If you are
expecting surf quality reverb, this circuit does not
produce that type of reverb. The amp has an extra
stage of gain and all that is needed is some ambience. This
reverb circuit does that just fine. If you look at a Fender
reverb schematic you will see that there are two stages of
gain before the signal splits off and is sent to the reverb
loop. The stout only has one stage of gain before being
sent to the reverb circuit and so the reverb is toned down
and not as dramatic as a Fender combo. It sounds just fine
to me for an amp with higher gain. You cannot use a ton of
reverb for higher gain amps, the reverb needs to be very
slight and subtle in this type of amp.
You can also build
this project with the Hot switch mod on full time and no
relay. Personally, I leave the Hot switch on full time.
The project would be a bit easier without the relay power
supply and relay. See the library page for the Schematics
and Layout diagrams. |
