Hello from Frankfurt, Germany,
today I was accepted into your forum, thank you. Ever since I was a teenager all my good friends have called me tone, I grew up south of London and have played guitar in many a dark venue there. Here I am going by the name of overtone, but feel free to call me what ever you like :-)
I am 46 and make a living not in music, but by designing and constructing buildings. When I was young my grandfather taught me about electricity, surveying, drawing and hammers. I remember I was eight when he connected me with crocodile clips up to a metal box, he threw the switch, and then had a real good laugh. He then went on to explain that the shock was only at 4 volts. After that we learnt all about Ohms law, built solenoids, telephone systems, etc. but never an amp.
I built my first amp at sixteen, only to discover that a plain "power amp" is not so hot for a guitar! Now after a 25 year break from music I am building again, and not playing as much as I should! But these homebrew amps sound really so good. Even "Her indoors" says so. She calls them "handbags" because it seems you can never have enough of them...
all the best, tone
