I finally had time to rig up my P1 eXtreme to a microphone and do some recordings with her cranked :) Please excuse the recordings as I didn't really get the levels right, wasn't using a limiter and couldn't be bothered to repeat the exercise, so there's the odd bit of digital clipping.

The links on this page are to raw MP3 files, i.e. there's no flash player shennanigans. Hopefully your browser will know what to do with the file type.

Thank you both.

I don't know what a Dumble actually sounds like in person, but I feel this amp seems to "round off the edges" of the attack. Is that what you were thinking? It almost had a Larry Carlton tone to when digging in, as if a compressor were involved.
Perhaps this is the 6V6 or perhaps it's because it's single-ended. The single coil at low volume on the Steinberger track sounds thin and glassy (certainly not rounded), but when cranked it gets way smoother and more squashy. That's got to be the single-ended nature of the amp, right?

Sounds great Simon,

Had to come back again and try and download the clips.
This morning when I tried, they were downloading at 28K or some really slow speed
The DL speed went way up this afternoon.

There's some very fat tones there, I like em!

They're being served off my machine at home, so the kids were probably hogging the bandwidth..... that I PAY FOR!  wink

Thanks! I am very pleased  smiley Let this be encouragement for anyone else considering a first time tube amp build. If I can do it, you certainly can!

Ok, that splains the DL speed

At the time I thought that it may have been a home machine,
but then I thought, who has their own server at home?  laugh
