I've just finished assembling/building a clone of a Tubescreamer 808. I purchased the PCB from DIY Effects (only $10), the parts from Mouser and the enclosure knobs from Pedal Parts Plus. For me as a newbie it was very easy to assemble, and the end result is fantastic. I'd never used a Tubscreamer before, so I was pleasantly surprised. Total cost...around $40  grin

Looks like you did a very nice job with it.  I built one a while back and like using it also. I also gave away a couple of Tube Screamers (TS-9?) in the potatoe bug shells.

potatoe bug shells.
Is this is the shell from the soundtank series? The soundtank 'screamer was my very first pedal...
The switch was the first thing to go.

I built a TS-808 from a board I got at Generalguitargadgets and I use it as my guitar preamp. I also built the Tychbrahe Octavia and a DOD-250. I use all three pedals, but 99% of the time I use the TS-808. I even bought a sh*tload of the jrc4558s because I thought there was a market in building 808s. Then 6 months later Ibenez released the re-issue 808. I now settle for converting TS-9s to 808s for 30 bucks a pop.

Good job on the build!

Thanks!

I auditioned for a band this weekend and finally got to try it out at a decent volume. I used my Steinberger with EMG's (89 - SA- 89) into the TS clone, then into my 2204 Marshall (with a 2x12 with celestions). Man it sounds cool, especially at minimum drive, used as a booster. I've never been able to get decent strat tones, but now this has opened up a whole new set of tones for me.  grin

After all this time I decided I didn't like the box due to the finish I hastily applied, and the tone knob was too close to the switch. It's now in a new box with MOSFETs for clipping (rather than the default 1N4148 pair) There's a demo MP3 of it going into my little P1 extreme:

Wow!  That is some really super nice tone.

I loved that. Sweet harmonics.

Thank you sir. That's very kind.

I think I can finally say I've recovered fully from the phase of my playing where I used a Boss GT6. I get it now :)
