I'm a newbie to the tube amp building world. I have a'69 Princeton Reverb Silverface that was refurbished by a tech some years ago and I love it but I never totally trusted it for gigs as I wasn't sure how well it would hold up to the pressure. I love looking at its "innards" but never really understood what all the bits were inside it!
I bought an all tube Traynor 40W for band work but was never really that happy with it but I ouldn't afford a boutique amp. I started reading up on tube amp building and decided to go the "complete kit" route for my first project. I built an Allen Accomplice kit and just loved the hand-wiring work. It fired up first time and it was such a thrill to see what I had built and the sound is amazing ( to my ears anyway!)
Now I'd like to start building from classic amp schematics/layouts.
I think from reading Kevin O'Connor's, Dave Hunter's and Gerald Weber's books/DVD's that I could really get into this work. I'm excited that the forum has such keen and knowledgeable contributors willing to give ideas and advice.
Maybe one day I'll be able to assist others starting out. Thanks
