Thanks for the tip off about the discontinued model...I'll keep my eyes peeled for one if I can find one lurking about secondhand somewhere. I agree on the finish material...I've finished my own guitars in a wide variety of stuff to good effect. I just has a vision of something in a lovely old style 3-colour sunburst, but with the floyd and HH pickups...somehting that had the look of an old guitar that had been modified like that. Looks like my best bet is just to pick up a Mexican or Japanese model on the cheap and maybe try and drill it out myself and adjust the nut accordigly too. Unless I can find a decent source appropriately drilled bodies, and I can always buy a floyd fitted neck too. Allparts seem to have a much lower number of body types than they used to...at least here in the UK. I also found
www.arranzguitars.com and might see what they can do for me. Are the Warmouth bodies any good? They seem to cost quite a bit by comparison.
They aren't in the UK, so I didn't mention them, but both Warmoth and USA Custom Guitars make exceptional parts. They are quite a bit more expensive, but are well worth the extra cost. At the moment, I think USA Custom is doing
slightly better work, though they don't have a license agreement with Fender, so their head stocks are slightly off, but it has never bothered me. Both companies do very fine finish work, as well, and at very reasonable costs. I couldn't beat their prices, that's for sure!
