Wow, 2 of the 4 guitarists for DP on the same stage. Ya think that would have happened if Ritchie was still there? Har!
I know you are a Morse fan, but I just don't get his stuff. I think he is WAY to polished for DP. In my humble opinion, 99.9% of the excitement of DP was not knowing what Ritchie was going to do or play next. I like the more raw seat-of-your-pants feel than the clinical exercise of Morse's stuff. He did a show at a friends music store and I got to meet him. Super nice guy...but..... Sorry, my wife thinks my musical tastes suck too! Jim

I never understood why Steve Morse would want to be in DP. I kind of think DP is a little restrictive style-wise for him.
I don't care for DP with Morse, but as everyone knows I love most of the Blackmore era stuff.
On the other hand, Steve Morse's music with Dixie Dregs (every thing from the beginning up through Industry Standard) is great. I love those old Dregs albums.
Nevertheless, that Black Night Morse/Satriani thing was sort of cool. Gillan's singing is what bothers me most about modern Purple.

I think Gillans singing may have been the straw that broke Blackmores back. Him forcing out Gillan and replacing him with Turner was just the beginning. As much as I absolutely love Gillan in his prime, his current abillities are painful at times. It was with great anticipation that I ran out and bought "Nobody's Perfect" the day it came out. Gillan was absolutely terrible. When I saw them a few years prior, he was having problems. Him insisting on doing songs like Child in Time is horrid. A friend should have clued him in. It's sad, but that's the cruel reality. You can't scream for 30 yrs solid, smoke and drink, and expect to keep your range. I think Ritchie got tired of living in the past. It's hard to go forward with those limitations. The new stuff was pretty ho-hum. He was also used to driving the car and firing anyone who didn't perform up to his standards (Rainbow). It was time to go. And now with Jon gone.......
I'll just keep playing my MIJ cd's and live in the past.
Jim
Ken - the Dregs......you can keep the chicken-picken stuff!

Oh, I agree with those sentiments completely...............Steve is at his best doin' the Dregs type thing! I saw the original band live several times in the 70's & they were nothing short of amazing!

I would have loved to have seen Dixie Dregs back in the day when Morse was playing the modded tele and the Ampeg.
Also Andy West, Alan Sloan, T Lavitz and Morgenstern. Great band.

I don't care who the backing band was, ;D It was pretty cool seeing Joe and Morse go toe to toe.
I think Joe had the edge, but that's just my .02.
Thanks for the cool video.
