Anybody else on the forum grow roses?? I have 17 full size rose bushes and 3 minatures. Been a bad year for roses as the drought the previous year and weird weather this year just kept me from getting the normal robust blooms. Just clipped these yesterday.
The one in the middle is a George Burns. My favorites are George Burns, Double Delight, Hot Cocoa and Mr. Lincoln. I have one called Apricot Brandy that has maybe a 5-6" bloom on it.
Fun hobby for me! I have them around the house and take them to my office both. Not a lot of work taking care of them when the weather cooperates.

I like the colored glass!
Not much into growing flowers, but growing food is one of my hobbies as you know.
The roses look great though.
I have always wanted to get into Glass blowing.
Problem is, it's so wasteful as far as burning huge amounts of fuel to make colored glass objects.
Cobalt blue glass always gets my attention.
Love handblown glass objects.

Those are really nice!!
I too don't grow flowers though we have tons of the wild variety in the yard.
Guy down the street from me has a big green house and is a professional of some sort.
I too am into growing for consumption and getting into trees.

I love glassblowing but you are so right.
We were lucky enough in high school to have a glassblowing department right next to the pottery department....in an average public school.(how they put that in the budget is beyond me)
Spent most of my time in those rooms during that time.
Glassblowing definitely takes 100% concentration.....or you're gonna get burned! :)(I never did)
I often dreamed of having a kiln for either hobby. :'(

My wife does the rose thing outside. I do orchids inside. My grandpa had greenhouses which my dad worked in until he started his engineering gig. He started growing orchids when he was about my age now. I always grew tropical stuff - especially plumeria. He gave me a few orchids over the years and then when he passed away last year I got all 126 plants, tables, and additional lights. I'm sure local law would think I was growing something else under the lights..... I enjoy it, I guess it's grandpa's green thumb passed down. I'll dig up some pics if someone is interested.
Nice blooms you got there. With all the rain we've had, we have been fighting black spot all year. The worst are the Japanese Beetles that went crazy this year! I filled up 5 bag traps through the summer - it was crazy! The only thing that kept them off the blooms was carbol powder, which kind of ruins the look of the blooms...

Jim, I loved hearing about your passion to carry on grandpa's green thumb!! VERY cool! Thanks for sharing that. My neighbor had more rose bushes than I do and they were his dad's who has passed away. The first 2 wks of this year, I'd guess I cut about 120+ blooms. But compared to '06, it has been a pretty thin bloom this year. Those birdhouses are CRAZY! They're so big, you'd hafta talk to your neighbors first to make sure it was OK. They're HUGE!
What a task. Good thing that guy had Lincoln Logs growing up. I'd have one in my backyard though. I would, but I'm trying to keep the birds away- my pool heater looks like a rock near an island inhabited by doves and cowbirds.

finally was able to start rose from a clipping , I'm syked ;D I also had a problem with black spot...I tried every thing for the last few years ...what has finally seemed to work is washing the bushes every few days in the sun (if possible) ....it washes off the spores and has worked all summer
