Took the power supply test. . . got a B+

« on: October 24, 2007, 08:38:58 pm »

A client just gave me a '65 Mosrite Celebrity I - vaguely an ES 335 copy with 2 P-90-like PU's, 1 vol 1 tone and a huge tremolo tailpiece.  It looks and sounds great; but there's tons of feedback.  Both pickups are microphonic, and transmit noise if tapped lightly.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Hey man,
You could try taking the pickup covers off and potting the coils in hot wax. The way I did this: take a big candle and put it in a "double boiler", i.e. the candle in one pot, and that pot in a pot of water on the stove. The wax will slowly melt. Dip the coils in and wait till the little bubbles stop coming out.
Stewmac has some more specific info on this I think.

I guess that's my best bet.  Nothing to lose.  Thanks!
