I am re doing a 5E1 and it calls for .02 and .06 at 600 volts. I want to use Doug for pa :help:rts but he dose not list these caps, can you substute .022 for these? Thanks JP

Yes for the .02/600v.

.022 is only 2/10 differance than .02 and that does not include the caps tolerance of +/- 10% or 20%. You'll never hear the differance. A .05 you would use .047 cap.

For the .06 do you mean the .05 cap on the PT primary? That is what's known as the "death cap", don't use it! You don't need it if you use a 3 wire power cord with the 3'rd wire (green, green/yellow safety ground) bolted to the chassis.

Thanks I have heard of this but first time I have run in to it. Do you have experence with 5F1 or 5E1 I am building an amp to go in our church chimes. amp on board is toast. I have got the strikers working and hooked up to a regular guitar amp I have but I can't leave it there. Thanks for help, you can tell i'm a rooke. JP

Are these chimes meant to be heard a couple blocks away? If so, I would think you would want a nice reliable solid state PA amp rather than a low power champ.

These are inside santuary and you are correct but  I wanted to stay old school .Also wanted to build ond for  my grandboy and introduce him to tubes. I have built a 6G15 re verb and wanted a tub amp to go with it. Also I can't find voltages for power tranny and the out put tranny. I thought the champ trannys would work? JP

I agree with other members that a Champ is too small for what you are trying to do. If you want it to be a tube amp go for something simple, reliable but with more power so you get some clean drive for a clear chime sound. I used to use a Dynakit MK III mono block amp for a pa in a medium sized church. It worked every wknd without fail and reproduced the vocals clean and clear. There are many such amps out there for sale, some already restored and some that need to be gone through. I found a Newcomb tube PA amp from a local junk dealer and this amp is a beautifully built piece of equipment. I brought it up slow on a Variac and it's very quiet and very strong without replacing a single part.
