Hi Guys,
Paul Fawcett here, from Richmond, VA. I've lurked around this joint on-and-off for a long time, so figure it's time to get properly acquainted.
A bunch of you here I have encountered on other forums. My usual hangout is over at AX84, but I can also be found occasionally skulking around the Music Electronics Forum, GroupDIY, DIYAudio, the Amp Garage, DIYStompboxes etc. On a couple of those forums I go by the name "Wombaticus", in honour of that most noble of all marsupials, the wombat. Wombat amps is also the name of my very modest side business which makes (and sometimes even sells!) a handful of guitar amps and tube studio outboard gear every year. My daytime job is as university professor in a field unrelated to electronics. While I don't have any formal training in electronics, I've become pretty comfortable with a good chunk of the relevant theory for tube electronics, and enjoy working on ground-up designs, so far as that's really possible to say about a 70 year old technology. Lately I've been brushing up on the solid-state side as well, and have been increasingly incorporating solid state elements into my designs where it seems smart to do so. I occassionally post pictures and build-logs of my current projects on my blog, which you can check out
here.
Cheers,
Paul
