Hey fellas, what is a decent headset mic? I'd actually prefer NOT wireless so I don't have to get the receiver n'nat. What are your experiences?
This is for our drummer.

Thanks!

There are electet condenser models and dynamic.  The condenser models are much more sensitive, which I find troubling behind a loud kit. The Condenser models are typically smaller and lighter weight which can be a plus. The Condenser also requires phantom power, which may not always be available. I've used AKG condenser headset and a Shure dynamic.  I kept the Shure, as I found that it handled the sound levels behind a drum set without putting my VU meters into the red. The downside to the Shure headset is that it doesn't have same frequency response that their other popular stage vocal mics have (SM57/58). It lacks some in the low end, but all in all isn't bad for most singing voices.

Bigsby, thanks. The drummer is my wife, so the frequencies don't have to go too low.  icon_biggrin At least this points me in the right direction.

I always like the crown cm311e. This is the mic Garth Brooks and madonna used in the 90s. I worked with a country band for 8 years and our drummer used that mic. It handled a lot of abuse and lots of sweat. The mic has what crown calls a differoid pattern. It means the mic has to be pretty much touching your lips to sound really good. The hat still leaks a little but it's not as bad as many other headsets. Shure makes a very nice headset that is not quite as robust but is probably more comfortable. I can get the model number for you if you like. I've used several similar mics and own a countryman but could not recomend it for a drummer. The nice hint about the crown cm311 is very little of the drum kit leaks into the mic. proaudioguy at yahoo dot com for additional help off board.
