Lust for 5F6A intel led me here.  I am totally newb old guy living in Hawaii and dreaming of building a '59 Bassman ever since I discovered the tube amp culture thriving on the intertubes.  This site and Doug Hoffman's work are incredibly helpful just in terms of giving me the confidence that I could do this (with my son's participation; he's the bass player).  Have already read his step-by-step notes for assembling and soldering the board.  I ordered The Ultimate Tone Vol. 3 from London Power and am going to study up before starting.  Very grateful to find this resource and community.

And, no . . .  it's raining like hell today.

Pahea oe Eulipian!

Big Island?  Just looked at the radar and it looked like you got it today!  Wow, my favorite place on this planet!  Are you a local or a poor haole boy dreamer like me?

You came to the best place on the intertube.  There are lots of nice folks here who will guide you through your build - if you need help!

Welcome!

Aloha no, Ritchie200,

Not Big Island, O`ahu.  Storms have been moving through from kona direction for days.  Even had thunder and lightening which, if you are here or have spent time here, you know are rare.  Yes, I am a poor haole boy from the cold frozen north, who came here to pursue a dream.  Am still active in my pursuit and could not live in the sub-arctic again. I'm wondering if your animated gif of da kine means you're involved in the Honolulu rail project?  That will be exciting to watch, though I'm looking for my own excitement with a 5F6A.  This forum is an amazingly cool and valuable resource.

Mahalo for introducing yourself, Ritchie200.  If you're in an ahupua`a nearby, let me know.

No, I'm still in the frozen north!  St. Louis to be exact.  Went to Hawaii on our honeymoon and absolutely fell in love with the place.  I told my wife I would retire there, with or without her....  Not sure I'll ever get there, except for maybe my ashes!  Came back several times (Oahu, Maui), the last time in 1993 to Kauai - we left 2 days before Iniki destroyed it.  Then the kids came along and suddenly there was no extra income...funny how that works!  We were hoping to get back there this year for our 25th wedding anniversary, but we have one starting college and another in high school needing a car....  I still get Kauai Magazine to keep up with my future ahupua'a!  Now if your invite is an official palapala kono for a week or so, I will book airfare tonight!  There are only four of us - we will not take up too much room!  worthy  Jojokeo is from California and spends a lot of time in Maui, so there are a few island fans here!  My gif is from Disney World, my second favorite place where they at least act like they are happy to have you visiting.  My annual escape to fantasy land.

Pomaika`i on your new build, you are among friends!

Hawaii moe'uhane....... cry

Aloha Jim (responding to your e-mail separately)

Kona/south winds (no trades) blowing in choke vog today. Cannot see the Waianaes from my office, which is on the 28th floor.  It's getting worse and many locals think drilling for geothermal in the rift zone made Pele hoʻohuhū and vog is her revenge.  Breathing it all day is like taking up smoking without wanting to.

Kaua`i still has not fully recovered from Iniki.  People don't realize how bad it was b/c Andrew had wiped out S. FL. at the same time.  As for St. Louis, I really enjoyed the place when were were there in 2003(?) during the Lewis and Clark bi-centennial.  Conquered my phobias of the Arch (claustro- and acro-) and had good fun.  How's the new ball park?

I'm getting into Doug's site more and see that there's lots of information.  Am trying to figure out what to do first and the 5F6A is still what I'm aiming for, though it's somewhat overwhelming when I start reading about "modding the caps" like the reissue, etc.  So, more reading before our little canoe leaves the shore and sets out in search of tonal enlightenment.

Thanks for your post.
