I'd like to see a section on this site for guys to show off pictures of their work and for people like me to look at for ideas on how to put things together.  I know there are plenty of threads here with detailed pictures but I sometimes find it hard to find what I'm looking for.  For me the discussions and all the information here is great but sometimes a picture is the only thing that really explains it.  I think it would be great to see a "photo build diary" section here.

Someone on another forum said something like "if there are no photos, it didn't happen".

Sure, if other people jump in and think it's a good idea, I can do that.

Need some more feedback

I think it's a great idea. I love looking at other peoples builds for ideas but I love looking at gut shots of all amps to see how things are wired from the factory and new builds.
BTW, I can't thank you enough for the Library of Information, this is an amazing place.

samato, wait a minute now, it's the weekend, 2000 + members, it's only been a couple of days, give it a little more time for members to read and respond.  IMHO your idea is a very good one.

Give it some more time for more people to read your post and get on board with it!      wink

You've already got Dougs vote, and thats the most important part, right?

It's mostly what the forum members want since they will be using any new feature.

Are you able to make the section just a photo gallery with/without a short description and not a full forum style?
We can link to the photo and discuss it in the proper forum if we choose to.
This will keep things where they are in the correct forum and then the gallery would be a show place.

This is the problem I can see happeneing.
People start adding replies to the picture post

Unless I lock out all replies, it would end up being another thread where epople start asking questions, which is what I don't want.

I am thinking the original poster can create a post, add some pictures and text and all other forum members can only view the post.
You will not be able to reply.

How's that sound?

I originally thought it would be nice to be able to ask questions in the photo thread but I guess I can see the problem with that.  I suppose if I was looking at someone's photo thread and I had questions I could either post my questions in the appropriate discussion forum or send the poster a PM.  The poster could then add comments to their photo thread if they thought it necessary.

I'm thinking of starting a new thread for my project now that I actually have parts and am starting to build.  My original one is here: http://www.el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=9891.0.  Should I just keep posting in the same thread?

For the new thread I was planning to include a lot of photos but I'd also like to ask questions and seek input from other members.  I guess this should just go in the "Tweaks" section.  Maybe later if this new "photo gallery" section is added I could create a thread with just the photos and brief comments.  Does this sound right or would it be redundant?

I do like the idea of just being able to see nothing but photos and text summary of projects.

The post would get split up all over the place.

I think you should just post in the regular amp forum.

I was thinking it would be just a photo shoot board so people could look at pictures.

Yes! Like a gallery with a few pics accross. A simple description would be nice... Like "Dan's 5E3".
Thanks!

I'm sure however Doug decides to set it up will be fine.

I think point is to have lots of detailed pics of different amps.  Gut shots, various stages, finished build, etc.

Amp photo Gallery is great.
I just want pics with a brief description of what the build is.

Thanks

Sounds good. I love to look at others handy work and there certainly is a lot of that here.

How about this
I found a cool mod for the SMF forum
It's a photo gallery.

Look up at the top tabs bar and see the new gallery tab
I already tested it by adding severl pics

Click on the new tab to go to the gallery

Very cool!  Looks like it's off to a good start.  Thanks for doing it.

I'll put mine up as soon as I'm done with my current/first build - if it doesn't blow up before I can take pics!  huh

One last silly comment....
When clicking on "GALLERY" why not go directly to it instead of that extra click to the subgroup?

It has to have at least one category.
I tried to add some pics without creating a category and it would not let me.

You can have other categories, like dogs, chickens, motocycles, etc

Amps are just one of the possible categories that you can have in the gallery.

Let's stick with amps.
I uploaded a picture and it says "Picture Not Approved". Does this mean someone has to approve it or the content is banned? :).

Hmm, well I like it how you have it but that approval thing is a pain.  What about just making it another forum category like "Tube Amp Building - Tweaks - Repairs", "AmpTools/Tech Tips", etc.?

Also, is there a way to add audio/video files in this section or would you just have to upload to Soundcloud, YouTube, or something like that then post a link to that in the gallery?

It would be nice to have the ability to post multiple photos to a single, organized thread with the name of the amp in the title.  It looks like this is just individual photos with no way to organize them.

I figure it out as I go, just add your pictures.

No Audio, no video, that is what Youtube and our soundclips baords are for.

New replies to the gallery should be made on my Gallery post here.
