I finally got my hands on a spring reverb tank for my Silvertone 1484, but it's not working. I opened up the tank and it is unlike any other reverb tank I've seen. There appear to be no kind of transducers whatsoever and there are two metal plates dangling in the spring. I'm wondering if they're supposed to be jammed between the copper plate and metal nut or what. (When I tried that I got no reverb, but when I smacked the tank I could hear it through the amp.) I have included as best pictures as I could. Are the arched - plate and nut supposed to be touching and the plate dangling over them in the spring?

I wished I could answer your question for you, but I don't know the answer. I thought I'd share that I had a Dan Electro Centurian that had a goofy spring reverb kind of like that.  It was driven with a 6CG7  (I think?)   I replaced it with true spring reverb driven by a 12AX7.

If you are knowledgeable on working on amps, I could probably draw you up a schematic on how you might approach that with your Silvertone.  Dan Electro made Silvertone amps.

If you want to see a schematic, leave me a PM.

With respect, Tubenit

So, given lemons, make lemonade!  The scuttlebutt is that the 1484 reverb was remarkable for being unremarkable.  So unless you want a true restoration, then I second Tubenit's post.

Otherwise you can scour eBay or Craigslist to find a suitable replacement tank, etc.

I heard that they were known for bad sounding reverb but wow, how did these ever make it out of the stores?

I opened mine and can't figure out how it works. What's going on in here? There's no continuity between the two input or two output wires. How does this work?

Another thing the string tied to the board was broken. I can't tell from the picture, is it pulled tight so the spring touches the board or just suspended above it? My reverb is really sloshy. I noticed if I tie the spring to the board it keeps the spring from ringing forever.
